One Iowa is the state’s leading lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) organization working toward full equality for LGBT individuals in Iowa through grassroots efforts and education.
Our mission for full equality includes educating Iowans about why marriage matters to gay and lesbian couples, ensuring that communities are safe for LGBTQ youth, reaching out to communities of faith, addressing concerns about Iowa’s aging and elder LGBT populations, improving access to resources for transgender Iowans, and so much more.
Formed in 2005 to support marriage equality, One Iowa is the state’s leading lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) organization working toward full equality for LGBT individuals in Iowa through grassroots efforts and education.
Iowans won marriage equality in 2009. Civil rights law now protects LGBT Iowans from discrimination. Yet, despite the legal advancements protecting LGBT Iowans from de jure discrimination, de facto discrimination, hate speech, bullying, and intolerance continue to diminish the lives of Iowans.
One Iowa’s work includes all aspects of LGBT equality. One Iowa supports LGBTQ youth though our Iowa Pride Network, addresses LGBT health access disparities, and seeks solutions to the needs of our LGBT elders. In partnership with the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy, we provide LGBT cultural competency, and HIV prevention training to law enforcement officers.
